This site uses privacy-first traffic measurement and optional Google Analytics to understand what is useful to visitors. You remain in control of whether Google Analytics is enabled.
At a glance
Basic analytics are cookieless.
Cloudflare Web Analytics measures general website traffic and performance without using cookies, local storage or fingerprinting. It does not track individual visitors across websites or collect personal data.
Google Analytics remains optional. When you first visit, you can accept or decline it. Google Analytics stays off unless you choose to accept it, and advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalization remain disabled.
Your Google Analytics choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site can remember it. You can review or change that choice at any time using the Privacy choices button at the bottom of the screen.
What is measured
General use, not your message.
Cloudflare Web Analytics provides broad, aggregated information such as page views, referral sources, country, device type, browser, operating system and page-performance measurements. Cloudflare receives an IP address as part of normal web traffic but says it discards that address at the nearest data centre rather than storing it in its analytics databases or logs.
If you accept Google Analytics, Google Analytics 4 may collect information such as pages viewed, general device and browser information, referral sources, downloads, outbound clicks and other site interactions.
When someone clicks an email inquiry link, the site may record a general category such as speaking, patient partnership, communications, book proposal or direct email. It does not collect the contents of the email you write.
This information is used to understand which parts of the site are helpful and which kinds of professional inquiries the site supports.
Email updates
Your inbox, your choice.
If you choose to join the newsletter, your email address, first name and optional last name are sent to Mailchimp and used to send Emily Foucault's newsletter and occasional updates about patient advocacy, writing, speaking and health-system work.
Mailchimp uses a confirmation email to make sure you intended to subscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email. Mailchimp processes this information according to its own privacy statement.
